ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Four NFL Hall of Famers are making their way to Graton Resort & Casino for Super Bowl weekend, but autographs aren't the only thing on the agenda. Marcus Allen, Rod Woodson, Charles Haley, and Bill Romanowski are rolling up their sleeves to compete in blackjack and slot tournaments right alongside regular casino guests who want a shot at beating some of football's greatest names.
Friday at 6 p.m. marks the start of the blackjack tournament, where Haley, Romanowski, and Woodson will battle fifteen qualified players for ten thousand dollars. Guests can watch the matches unfold from the gaming floor while total payouts climb into the tens of thousands throughout the weekend's schedule.
Although in-person locations like Graton continue to be the state's top choice for live tournament play, California blackjack sites have increased in popularity for those interested in playing blackjack outside of casinos. The format is similar to what serious players experience in competitive environments, where victors are distinguished from the rest by strategy and discipline.
These four athletes have won 13 Super Bowl titles between them. While Haley's five rings are still among the most remarkable in NFL history, Allen won MVP in Super Bowl XVIII with the Raiders. Romanowski won four titles with the Broncos and 49ers, while Woodson created defensive records over his 17 seasons.
Beyond the Tables: Slots and Watch Parties
In Saturday's noon slots tournament, Haley and Allen compete against sixty players for the $2,000 prize. Slots attract the easy-going crowd just wanting simple thrills, while legal blackjack tables fill up with calculated players breaking down probabilities hand by hand.
Between 2 and 6 p.m., all four former players will greet fans for an hour at no cost. Romanowski, Woodson, and JT The Brick will provide pregame commentary prior to kickoff at Sunday's watch party, which starts at 2:30 p.m. at G Bar. All public events during the weekend don't require pre registration.
