- There have been recent talks from an investor for a South Carolina casino project.
- The investor proposed nearly $1 billion in private money towards a casino.
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Despite no politicians in South Carolina having any serious recent talks regarding a casino coming to the Palmetto State, one Greenville based investor has upped the ante in hopes of bringing one.
Wallace Cheves, a business out of Greenville proposed anywhere between $750 million and $1 billion in private money to be used to construct a legal blackjack casino.
His vision includes between a 300k-400k square foot facility right along I-95 in Santee which runs North and South within the state. Included in the South Carolina blackjack casino project would also be a 300-600 room resort style hotel which would sit on nearly 40 acres of land.

The expectation is that such a project would employ nearly 4,000 people and generate roughly $8 billion within the first 10 years of operation. The project was proposed last year and did make it through the House, however, it did not receive the approval votes needed on the House floor to pass.
In partnership with Brad Hutto, Senate minority leader, he has already indicated that he will be reintroducing the legislation during the 2027-28 session. Under his proposal, it would allow for just one single casino, in this case the Santee casino, which he estimates would gain nearly $70 million annually. As for how the revenue would be distributed, half would go to the conservation with another $10-$12 million being poured back into the local economy.
