Lumbee Tribe Casino In North Carolina Moves Forward

  • The Lumbee Tribe Council voted 17-2 in favor of casino gaming.
  • Over 3,000 jobs are estimated to be created with the new casino.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Some positive signs out of North Carolina come for the Lumbee Tribe after their council approved the constitution for them to offer casino gaming with a 17-2 final vote.

Their casino plans will feature legal blackjack, slots, table games, casino bonuses, and much more, as well as creating a massive economic impact with over 3,000 jobs expected to be created with the final project.

“(The) Tribal Council finds it is in the best interest and welfare of the Tribe to authorize gaming activities on Tribal lands,” the resolution states. Chairman John Lowery also issued a statement ahead of the final vote.

“Tonight, the Lumbee Tribal Council will take a historic step to give you, the citizens of the Lumbee Tribe, the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment that will allow our Tribe to conduct gaming,” Lowery said.

This would mark the fourth tribal casino to open in North Carolina, along the two Cherokee owned casinos, Harrah’s and Cherokee Casino, and the Catawba Indiana casino, Two Kings Casino, just west of Charlotte.

As for how far along the project is, the tribe has already secured 240 acres of land in Robeson County, sitting alongside I-95. With all said, there could be even more North Carolina blackjack available to those on the east coast of the state.
