- Sam’s Town Tunica is permanently closing on Nov. 9.
- Operators of the casino hotel cited a decline in demand as the key reason for closing.
- There are no plans to relocate the casino or open a new casino.
TUNICA, Miss. – The beloved Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino will permanently close their doors on November 9. The long-running casino offered blackjack in Mississippi for over 30 years in the Tunica area.
Sam’s Town is the third Tunica casino to close their doors since 2014, leaving just five casinos with blackjack compared to 10+ that were operating in the 1990s. Boyd Gaming, the operators of Sam’s Town, claim the declining demand in Tunica led to the unfortunate closure.
Sam’s Town released a list of FAQs about the closing, stating that “The decision to permanently close Sam’s Town Tunica was made after careful consideration of a variety of business factors. While this is not an easy decision, we are grateful for the many years of support from our loyal guests.”
The flyer goes on to say that there won’t be another casino to replace Sam’s Town and that they aren’t relocating, just closing. The casino officially closes on Nov. 9 at 10 PM, but the hotel closes on Nov. 2.
Sam’s Town was the largest Tunica casino when they opened back in 1994. They eventually renovated and added over 300 hotel rooms before acquiring more hotel space in 2002. Thousands of travelers and community members over three decades enjoyed Sam’s Town’s offerings, making their closure on Nov. 9 a sad day for the community.
Tunica Locals Still Have Online Blackjack, In-Person Options
There are still plenty of places to play blackjack in Tunica, both in-person and online. Tunica Resorts has six casinos in the area, but the best bet for 3:2 blackjack payouts and guaranteed seats at the table is playing online.
Bovada Casino has offered real money blackjack in Mississippi for over a decade. They have many different blackjack variations, including single deck blackjack that gives players the best chance to beat the dealer.
