Could Blackjack Casinos Be Coming To Dallas/Fort Worth?

  • Native American tribes are pushing to bring casino resorts to Texas.
  • The Choctaw and Chickasaw are leading the charge in North Texas.
  • Dallas Mavericks owner Miriam Adelson spent $29 million in an effort to bring casino resorts to Dallas.

DALLAS – The fight continues between politicians, business leaders, and Native American tribes in a joint effort to try to bring resort-style casinos to the Lone Star State in Dallas in particular.

Two Native American tribes based in Oklahoma, the Choctaw and Chickasaw, are eying North Texas as the next destination for resort casinos, with legal blackjack being offered.

The two Oklahoma-based tribes have been taking a slower approach compared to others that are lobbying for resort casinos in the state. Most notably, the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, which has major ties for Miriam Adelson, the majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks.

Adelson has shown her support to the tune of $29 million in political donations in an effort of bringing major blackjack casinos to the state.

What To Expect From Potential Casinos In North Texas

There have been studies on what the economic landscape would look like if major Texas blackjack casinos were to move into the DFW area.

A 33-member committee is in the middle of a year long study that would show how much a Vegas-style resort casino would generate in revenue for the state. There have been comparisons to other states that have tribal run resort casinos, such as California that generated $12 billion in 2024, and Oklahoma, which saw $6 billion in 2023.
