Virginia Casinos Made $100 Million For First Time in March

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia casinos made over $100 million in revenue for the first time since they began operating in 2022. The five Virginia blackjack casinos: Caesars Virginia, Hard Rock Bristol, The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk, Live! Petersburg, and Rivers Casino Portsmouth combined for the record-setting month across slots and table games.

Based on data provided by the Virginia Lottery, slots made up $75.2 million of the $100.1 million total for March’s casino revenue. Table games, including legal blackjack, made up the remaining $24.9 million.

Caesars Virginia was the top-earning casino for the month with $34.2 million in revenue, followed by Rivers Casino Portsmouth ($27.5m) and Hard Rock Bristol ($22.1m). Live! Petersburg made $15.2 million and The Interim Gaming Hall Norfolk totaled $1.06 million in March.

Virginia Casino Tax Revenue Distribution Breakdown

Virginia’s Gaming Proceeds Fund received just over $18 million in taxes from the successful month. Those tax funds are distributed between many different funds, including the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund (0.8%), Family and Children’s Trust Fund (0.2%), Virginia Indigenous People’s Trust Fund (1% from Interim Gaming Norfolk), and the host city (6%).

State statutes specify that the host city portion gets contributed towards the Regional Improvement Commission (RIC), which then divides proceeds equally between the cities of Bristol, Norton, and 12 counties that receive blackjack revenue tax benefits from Hard Rock Bristol Casino.
