Jamaica Approves Regulations For Casino, Faces Delays

  • The framework for casinos in Jamaica has been approved.
  • Despite being approved, they are facing delays on the opening.

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Following the approval of Jamaica’s casino gaming in 2025, the ruling passed through the Senate on Friday, which will bring casino gaming to the island.

The framework of the legal blackjack casino regulations are designed with integrity and the well being of patrons at the top of the list.

The effort to bring casino regulations to Jamaica has been going on since the Casino Gaming Act of 2010, which had initially been approved; however, casino gaming had not yet gone live, with the exception of the ones that are integrated in resorts.

“At the heart of these regulations is the drive to provide a further boost to Jamaica’s economy by diversifying and enhancing our tourism industry which is a major contributor to Jamaica’s GDP (gross domestic product),” outlined Senator Johnson Smith.

Along with the regulation being approved for in person casino gaming, there have also been talks of an online blackjack casino expansion; however, there are still hurdles to cross in that department. The main reason for the delay is that the regulations were just approved recently. With them now being approved, plans for standalone casinos on the island are now in the works with big resorts also leading the way.
